Pay raises beat inflation rate despite economic squeeze

Executive salaries at the nation's biggest nonprofit groups continued to rise last year despite the sluggish economy and layoffs and program cutbacks at many charities and foundations, according to The Chronicle's 12th annual survey of compensation and benefits.
