2 Pa. Museums to Share Richard Mellon Scaife Collection

Billionaire publisher Richard Mellon Scaife, who died July 4 at age 82, has left his extensive art holdings to museums at opposite ends of his home state of Pennsylvania, the Associated Press and The Philadelphia Inquirer write.

Mr. Scaife, an heir to the Mellon fortune and owner of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, directed in his will that his collection be divided between the Westmoreland Museum of American Art outside Pittsburgh and the Brandywine Museum near the Delaware border. He also left the Brandywine a 900-acre conservancy on the grounds of his childhood home in Ligonier, Pa., and $15 million for its management.
