A nonprofit fundraising organization has committed $20 million to update and expand pediatric-treatment facilities at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, reports The Clarion-Ledger. of Jackson, Miss. The gift from Friends of Children’s Hospital advances a $100 million capital campaign to improve medical care for children in the state.
The donor group is a nonprofit auxiliary of university-affiliated Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, the state’s only medical center dedicated to pediatric care. The capital drive is led by Children’s of Mississippi, an umbrella organization that includes Batson’s and the university hospital’s pediatric facilities, including specialty-care clinics. Among other projects, the money will be used to build a new outpatient clinic and expand neonatal and pediatric intensive-care units.
