$25 Million Gift Boosts Engineering Program at Texas A&M

A San Antonio company specializing in industrial construction is donating $25 million toward the expansion of Texas A&M University's Dwight Look College of Engineering, the San Antonio Express-News writes.

The gift from Zachry Group will back construction of a 550,000-square-foot engineering-education complex at the College Station campus and programs to develop future industry leaders and bring current ones into A&M classrooms as "professors of practice."

John B. Zachry, the firm's chairman and chief executive, is a 1984 A&M graduate. He said the gift is aimed at addressing a "national shortage of engineers" and support his alma mater's efforts to build its engineering school into the nation's largest. The new building is part of Texas A&M's "25 by 25" goal to enroll 25,000 engineering students by 2025.
