A new center for brain research at the UT Southwestern Medical Center will bear the name of longtime University of Texas patron Peter O’Donnell Jr. in honor of a $36 million donation from the O’Donnell Foundation, reports D Healthcare Daily. The university system’s board of regents approved plans Thursday for the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute at the Dallas hospital complex.
Housed at UT Southwestern’s Zale Lipshy University Hospital, the institute will conduct research on the molecular-level workings of the brain in pursuit of treatments for Alzheimer’s and other conditions while treating patients with acute head trauma, neurological diseases like Parkinson’s and ALS, and other brain-related illnesses.
