$50 Million Gift to Build Mental-Health Center in San Francisco

June 5, 2015

The University of California at San Francisco’s recently opened hospital in the city’s Mission Bay district has received an anonymous $50 million contribution to support construction of a mental-health research and treatment center, reports San Francisco Business Times.

The donation includes a parcel of land and construction funds for the planned 140,000-square-foot facility, for which the university needs to raise an additional $100 million.

The Mission Bay complex, which opened in February, has received several major gifts. The mental-health center will be located on the site of a similar proposed project that went through early development stages in 2007 and was referred to in planning documents as the Pritzker Center at UCSF. Sources familiar with the property named billionaire investor John Pritzker as the likely source of the new gift, but the university refused to comment on the donor’s identity.
