$75 Million Gift Supports Texas Hospital Modernization

The Sealy & Smith Foundation is donating $75 million to the University of Texas Medical Branch to support a major renovation of the Galveston complex's John Sealy Hospital, reports the Houston Business Journal.

The gift will cover most of the cost of the approximately $133 million project, which includes reconfiguring five floors of the 12-story medical center built in the 1970s. The foundation has also provided $170 million toward construction of the $438 million Jennie Sealy Hospital, scheduled to open next year on the Galveston campus.
