Advocates of N.Y. Campaign-Finance Overhaul Seek Help From Philanthropists

Advocates of overhauling New York State's campaign-finance system met Thursday with 40 representatives of the philanthropic community to enlist their help in lobbying for changes, The New York Times reports.

Officials with the Open Society Foundations, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and other donor groups heard from state Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman, who has pushed for greater disclosure of political contributions, and backers of public financing of state elections. The Manhattan meeting was organized by the Piper Fund, which makes grants to state and national campaign-finance efforts.
