The University of Chicago will launch a think tank for research into urban issues with a $35 million gift from Joe Mansueto, the CEO of investment-research firm Morningstar, and his wife, Rika, reports the Chicago Tribune. The Mansueto Institute for Urban Innovation will gather scholars from the humanities and the sciences to address issues related to urbanization such as housing, health care, and violence.
The contribution was announced Wednesday. It is the couple's second major gift to the university, from which they both received undergraduate degrees and where Mr. Mansueto went on to earn his M.B.A. They donated $25 million toward building the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library, which was dedicated in October 2011.
