American Ballet Theatre Names New Head

The American Ballet Theatre, based in New York, has named Kara Medoff Barnett its next executive director, The Wall Street Journal reports. Ms. Medoff, previously an executive for the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, replaces the longtime head of the ballet, Rachel Moore.

Among other things, Ms. Barnett will be responsible for overseeing increased fundraising efforts in London, meant to support tours and student exchanges. She comes to the job after a high-profile year for the American Ballet Theatre, with developments such as the naming of the breakout star Misty Copeland as its first African-American female principal dancer.
