Amid Revamp, United Way Silicon Valley Names Interim Leader

As it works to develop a more sustainable business model, United Way Silicon Valley has named a new interim chief executive, The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Sandra Miley, who most recently served as vice president of corporate marketing for Vocera Communications, replaces Carole Leigh Hutton, the agency’s leader for the past eight years, who resigned from her seat on the United Way board.

Despite strong charitable giving in the area, the Silicon Valley organization — like many local United Way chapters — has seen a decline in workplace giving. United Way Silicon Valley has put its local grant program for nonprofits on hold as it works with a consultant, funded by a Packard Foundation grant, to increase its long-term sustainability.
