Ark. City Rejects Bloomberg Funds Over Political Stands

The Jonesboro, Ark., City Council last week rejected a resolution to partner with a voluntarism and community-service nonprofit because of political stands taken by its founder, media mogul and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, reports Talk Business & Politics, an Arkansas magazine.

The council voted 10 to 2 against applying for a $30,000 grant from Cities of Service. At a Nov. 18 debate on the matter, some members said Mr. Bloomberg's support for gun control and abortion rights is out of step with the views of most Jonesboro residents. "I can't sell my soul for $30,000," Councilman Gene Vance said.
