Art Institute of Chicago Receives $400 Million Contemporary-Art Donation

Chicago philanthropists Stefan Edlis and Gael Neeson have donated their private collection of contemporary art, valued at $400 million, to the Art Institute of Chicago in what the museum says is the largest gift in its history. The Chicago Tribune reports.

The collection of paintings, photographs, and sculptures includes 42 pieces including many from Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Jeff Koons, and others. The collection will be on display in the museum's Modern Wing for the next 50 years.

Mr. Edlis, 89, serves on the museum board and has been a major donor there in addition to the New Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.
