Backlash to Planned Parenthood Study Forces Tex. Official to Resign

A Texas Health and Human Services Commission official is stepping down due to backlash from state Republicans about a study he co-authored, which found that cuts to Planned Parenthood are limiting access to women's health care in the state, reports the Associated Press.

The study was conducted by Rick Allgeyer, director of research, and others and was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Texas Republicans objected to the findings, in part because the Susan T. Buffet Foundation, which supports Planned Parenthood, supported the study.

Critics also complained that Mr. Allgeyer worked on the study on taxpayer time.
