Ballmer Group
Loren Harris is becoming the first executive director of national impact at this grant-making group created by Steve Ballmer, the former CEO of Microsoft, and his wife, Connie. Harris most recently served as chief program and strategy officer at the Kenneth Rainin Foundation.
In addition, Kevin Bromer has joined the Ballmer Group as executive director and head of technology and data strategy. Previously he was vice president of product delivery at Salesforce.org.
Community Foundation of the Lowcountry
Scott Wierman will become president and CEO of the $71 million community foundation in South Carolina on January 1, 2021. Currently, he is president of the Winston-Salem Foundation in North Carolina.
Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
Phillip Brian Harper, dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Science at New York University, has been hired as program director for the $7 billion foundation’s Higher Learning grant-making area. He will start his new position on October 1.

Gary Balcerzak, vice president for operations at Aurora Sinai Medical Center, is the new president and CEO of the Cream City Foundation, in Milwaukee.
Thomas Beauford Jr. has been selected as president and CEO of the Buffalo Urban League. Most recently he was vice president in the Risk Management and Regulatory Affairs Division at M&T Bank. He succeeds Brenda McDuffie, who was president for 21 years.
Michael Brogioli, senior adviser at the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, is now executive director of Fight for Sight. He follows Arthur Makar, who has retired after almost 10 years in the role.
Teresa Lenling, vice president of school and community engagement at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, has been named CEO of Hope Cottage. This nonprofit group in Dallas offers services for adoption, foster care, education, and parent support.

Ahmed Bur, CEO and chief financial officer at Red Wagon Village, has been named chief financial officer at Treehouse, a nonprofit group that provides services to youths in foster care in Washington State.
Carolyn Campbell-Golden, a former vice chancellor at Auburn University at Montgomery, has been named vice president for development and alumni engagement at Washington & Jefferson College.
Ana Jackson has been named chief evaluation and data-strategy director at Blue Shield of California Foundation. Most recently, she led Kaiser Permanente’s Care Management Institute’s Center for Evaluations and Analytics.
Jay Kahn, executive senior associate vice president for advancement at Purdue University at West Lafayette, has been named vice president for development and alumni affairs at Georgia State University.
Gina Range, vice president of external relations and development at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, has joined the August Wilson African American Cultural Center as vice president of institutional advancement.
Matthew Stinson, vice president for institutional advancement at Westminster College, has been appointed vice president for development and alumni affairs at Allegheny College.
Lou Traina has been tapped as senior consultant at the consulting firm Soukup Strategic Solutions, where he will work with nonprofit leaders. He previously served as vice president of institutional advancement at Florida Southwestern State College and the executive director of the FSW Foundation.
William Zamagni Jr. has been appointed chief financial officer at Charities Aid Foundation of America. A retired colonel from the U.S. Marine Corps, he most recently was chief financial officer and vice president at the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
Departure
Joseph Thompson, who has led the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art since its founding in 1988, plans to step down as director in October. He will remain with the organization as special counsel to the Board of Trustees. Tracy Moore, deputy director, will begin serving as interim director on October 29.
Legacy
William Arnett, the founder and chairman of the Souls Grown Deep Foundation in Atlanta, died at age 81 on August 12. He was a writer, editor, and art collector who spent more than 30 years promoting African American artists from the Deep South. Through his organization, he helped art museums add works by Black artists to their permanent collections and supported related exhibitions, education, public programs, and publications.
