Beverage-Firm Clan Gives $61 Million to Rochester Foundation

The upstate New York family behind one of the country's biggest producers of wine, beer, and spirits has donated $61 million to the Rochester Area Community Foundation, the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reports. The Sands Family Supporting Foundation will operate under the aegis of the community foundation and focus its giving on the arts, education, and health.

The donation was made by Richard and Rob Sands, respectively the chairman of the board and the CEO of Constellation Brands, and their mother, Mickey Sands. Constellation is the country's third-largest beer company and the biggest multi-category alcoholic-beverages firm, with 2015 sales of more than $6 billion. The company and the family have given about $30 million to charity over the past decade, Richard Sands said.
