Bloomberg Philanthropies on Tuesday named the first eight grant recipients in its $42-million What Works Cities project, announced in April, CNN Money reports.
The project will help cities with populations between 100,000 and one million improve their use of data to increase the efficiency of their operations. Five partner organizations will help implement the project, and a team from one of the organizations will work with officials in each of the cities to develop strategies.
The first eight cities selected are Chattanooga, Tenn.; Jackson, Miss.; Kansas City, Mo.; Louisville, Ky.; Mesa, Ariz.; New Orleans; Seattle; and Tulsa, Okla. The project will gradually be extended to 100 cities.
