The philanthropist and art collector Barbara Lee has donated 20 works by major female artists, collectively valued at approximately $42 million, to Boston's Institute of Contemporary Art, The Boston Globe writes. It is Ms. Lee's second major gift to the museum in a year, following last December's donation of 45 works by women, valued at $10 million.
The new contribution is particularly strong on sculpture and includes pieces by Eva Hesse, Louise Bourgeois, and Marisol Escobar. Ms. Lee is a longtime supporter of the institute and the source of about a third of the 220 works in its permanent collection. Last year the institute established the Barbara Lee Collection of Art by Women.
