Buffett Lunch Auction Brings $3.46 Million to Calif. Charity

An anonymous bidder offered $3,456,789 Friday to break bread with Warren Buffett, tying a record for the billionaire philanthropist’s 17th annual charity lunch auction, Reuters writes.

The take from the five-day eBay auction bid brings to about $23.6 million the amount the investment guru has raised since 2000 for the Glide Foundation, a San Francisco  nonprofit that provides meals, health care, and other services to poor and homeless people in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The winning bidder can invite up to seven friends to the lunch at the Smith & Wollensky steakhouse in Manhattan. The successful offer matched the amount paid in 2012, also by an anonymous bidder, to chow down with the Berkshire Hathaway chairman.
