Charity Leaders Eye U.K. for Expansion of 'Giving Tuesday'

The British-born founder of Giving Tuesday was in London this week to talk with government ministers about plans to launch the post-Thanksgiving philanthropic event in his native country, The Independent reports.

"The research shows that Britain is one of the most generous stories in the world and has been forever. The generosity of the U.K. is one of its driving principles," said Henry Timms, the leader of New York's 92nd Street Y. Mr. Timms started Giving Tuesday two years ago and helped build it into a multinational, social-media-driven phenomenon involving thousands of charities that raise millions of dollars.

The initiative is backed by the Charities Aid Foundation, an umbrella group of British nonprofits that is talking up Giving Tuesday with major corporations.
