Chicago Mayor Proposes Parkland Deal for Obama Library

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel proposed an ordinance Wednesday that would allow the city to acquire park property for the future Obama presidential library, Reuters reports. The measure would permit the transfer if a park site is recommend by the Barack Obama Foundation, which is overseeing the library project.

The University of Chicago, one of four academic institutions bidding to host the library, rests its proposal on using land owned by the city parks agency, reportedly raising a red flag for the foundation. Mr. Emanuel has publicly committed to bringing the library to the president's home town.
