Conn. Man Gets 3 Years in Theft From 3 Nonprofits

The former treasurer for three Milford, Conn., charities was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison, suspended after three years served, for stealing $237,000 from the organizations, reports the New Haven Register. Richard A. Weir, 70, was also ordered to repay more than $180,000 to the Milford Club and local chapters of the Rotary Club and Special Olympics.

Mr. Weir has already repaid $86,000 for thefts that went back as far as 1990. Most of the stolen money was taken from a Rotary Club trust fund that paid for scholarships, according to a lawyer for the charity.
