An online charity appeal set up six months ago by a British college student who was on the Malaysian Airlines flight shot down over Ukraine last week has raised thousands of dollars in the days since his death, the Press Association reports.
Richard Mayne's campaign benefits Kidasha, an organization that helps disadvantaged children in Nepal. The 20-year-old Leeds University student had traveled to Nepal in March as part of a charity trip to the Mount Everest base camp.
Mr. Mayne set a goal of about $1,160 for his campaign on the charity crowdfunding site JustGiving. Contributions began flooding in after his death in the MH17 crash was confirmed Friday, and as of early Tuesday morning the tally was nearing $15,000.
