Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has flamboyantly placed philanthropy front and center at the business-software firm's annual Dreamforce gathering, focusing events and his keynote speech on giving and causes, Fortune writes.
At this year's Dreamforce, held this week in San Francisco, Mr. Benioff did not announce a new product until two-thirds of the way through his speech. As in past years, he highlighted the company's support for causes like the San Francisco Unified School District and asked nonprofit employees in the audience to stand up.
During a three-hour keynote last year, Mr. Benioff brought celebrity activists Sean Penn and Petra Nemcova to the stage to talk about rebuilding efforts in Haiti. The tech mogul has exhorted other Silicon Valley firms to step up their philanthropy.
