One of Donald Trump’s sons told The Washington Post Wednesday that his father has donated “millions and millions and millions” of dollars from his own fortune to charity. Eric Trump said his father has “given me and my foundation hundreds of thousands of dollars” but declined to provide details or documentation of that or other giving by the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, saying, "My father likes to keep some anonymity. … It’s who he is as a person."
The Eric Trump Foundation, which primarily supports St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, was one of more than 200 charities with ties to Donald Trump that the Post has canvassed in its investigation of the GOP candidate’s philanthropic claims. In a call to the newspaper Wednesday, Eric Trump denounced its reporting. Asked for confirmation of specific gifts to his foundation from his father, the younger Mr. Trump said he would check with officials at the charity but later replied in an email, “We are going to maintain anonymity."
