Ex-N.Y. Council Leader Embraces New Role Serving Homeless

The Wall Street Journal writes about former New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn's transition to leading WIN, a charity that supports homeless women and children. Ms. Quinn, who served 14 years on the council before losing in the 2013 mayoral race, joined the nonprofit late last year.

The charity, formerly known as Women in Need, operates 11 shelters that serve some 11,000 people, more than half of them children. Known for her tough negotiating style while in office, Ms. Quinn remains at the center of the political and policy discussion over homelessness in New York and has won plaudits from other organizations for her study of the issue and ability to wield her government experience to untie bureaucratic knots.
