Fla. Builder Gives $50-Million to U. of Miami Health System

The charitable foundation of South Florida homebuilder Lennar Corporation has donated $50-million to UHealth, the University of Miami's medical network, to construct a new outpatient center in Coral Gables, the Miami Herald writes. The contribution was announced Thursday during a groundbreaking ceremony for the 200,000-square-foot facility, to be called the Lennar Foundation Medical Center and slated for completion in 2016.

Miami-based Lennar is led by Stuart Miller, who chairs the university's board of trustees. Pascal Goldschmidt, dean of the university's Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine—named for the building firm's late co-founder—said the gift would help the school focus resources on medical education and community care by reducing the debt on the $140-million construction project.
