Congressional Republicans are circulating a letter calling on three federal agencies to investigate the Bill, Hillary, & Chelsea Clinton Foundation for alleged corruption, CNN reports.
The missive, authored by Tennessee Rep. Marsha Blackburn is set to be sent later this week to the heads of the FBI, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Federal Trade Commission. It calls the former first family’s charity “a lawless ‘Pay to Play’ enterprise that has been operating under a cloak of philanthropy for years and should be investigated.”
The letter cites the foundation’s international work — which was not mentioned in paperwork the charity filed upon its inception in 1997 — and grants made by the Hillary Clinton-led State Department to organizations with ties to former President Bill Clinton. Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and other Republican leaders have assailed the foundation, particularly over its foreign fundraising.
