Idaho Education Donor Might Withhold Gift Over Program Cuts

A Boise foundation is threatening to withhold $4.5-million it has pledged to an effort to track Idaho students' progress if the state restores taxpayer funding for a teacher-development program, says the Associated Press.

The money represents the final installment of the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation's $21-million 2011 gift to the Idaho Department of Education to buy computer software to monitor student performance.

In a letter to state officials, the foundation said it will not turn over the $4.5-million unless the state secures the professional-development funds, which were jeopardized when Idaho voters rejected a proposed education overhaul in the November election.
