International Human-Rights Researcher Jemera Rone Dies

Jemera Rone, who spent much of her career working as a human-rights researcher in conflict zones, including Syria and Sudan, has died of cancer at the age of 72, The Washington Post reports.

A lawyer by training, she spent years reporting in El Salvador for the human-rights group Americas Watch and later worked two decades for Human Rights Watch. During 15 years in Sudan, she documented atrocities that included ethnic slaughter and village destruction, human-rights abuses during famine, and the impact of oil exploration and extraction in southern part of the country.
