Jacobs Foundation Gives $20-Million to UC-Berkeley

The Paul and Stacy Jacobs Foundation has given $20-million to help pay for a design innovation institute in the engineering school at the University of California at Berkeley, reports The San Francisco Business Times.

Paul Jacobs, the foundation's president and CEO and chairman of Qualcomm Inc., chairs the dean's advisory board at Berkeley's college of engineering. Both Mr. Jacobs and his wife have degrees from the campus.

The university will use the funds primarily to develop the institute's curriculum. Training at the institute will concentrate heavily on manufacturing, according to Shankar Sastry, dean of the engineering school.
