Kiva Expands Microfinancing Program to Washington

The nonprofit microfinancing group Kiva is expanding its American efforts to Washington, and on Tuesday will launch a new program in the national capital region, The Washington Post writes.

The program to steer small loans to Washington-area entrepreneurs follows similar "Kiva City" efforts in Detroit, New Orleans, and Los Angeles. The San Francisco-based organization, which links small businesses to capital through an online network of 870,000 lenders, has been moving into U.S. urban communities over the past year after focusing it efforts heavily in the developing world.
