Kresge Funds to Support Expansion of NPR Stage Productions

NPR is expanding its slate of live theatrical events, with nearly two dozen shows planned across the country in the coming months, writes The New York Times. Part of a three-year, $1.2-million operating grant from the Kresge Foundation will be used to underwrite the stage shows, which will also have corporate sponsorship and are intended to be money-makers for the nonprofit radio network.

The expansion will encompass three series of shows under the banner "NPR Presents." The NPR move follows the lead of other broadcast organizations, including popular public radio programs "This American Life," "Radiolab," and "Marketplace," that have mounted stage shows.
