L.A. Art Museum's Curator to Take Charge at Miami's Perez Art Museum

The Pérez Art Museum Miami named Franklin Sirmans, curator of contemporary art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, as its new director, the Miami Herald reports. Mr. Sirmans will take office Oct. 15, replacing Thomas Collins, who announced his departure in January.

Mr. Sirmans spent five years at the Los Angeles museum, known as LACMA, and previously held a similar post at the Menil Collection in Houston, from which an exhibition traveled in 2009 to the Miami Art Museum, the Pérez' predecessor.

The Miami museum has become a popular gathering place since opening in late 2013 in a new waterfront building. Trustee Dennis Scholl, who chaired the search committee for a director, said Mr. Sirmans's mandate will be to build on that success and "create a place where the art is about our community, for our community but still resonates on an international level."
