Lilly Fund Gives $100 Million to Indiana Arts Groups

The Lilly Endowment has awarded a collective $100 million to 14 arts and culture organizations in its home state of Indiana, reports The Indianapolis Star.

The grants, announced Tuesday, range from $5 million to $10 million, with the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the Indianapolis Zoo supported at the largest level. Awards to Dance Kaleidoscope, the Indiana Humanities Council, and the International Center will establish endowments for those groups.

"The message being sent is, these grants are an expression of a realization that arts organizations struggle to make ends meet," said Judith Cebula, the Indianapolis-based philanthropy's communications director. "We realized one of the best things we can do is to help them think about long-term financial sustainability, not just fund a capital project or a new initiative."
