Billionaire media tycoon Mortimer Zuckerman is backing a $100 million program to foster scientific and technological collaboration between Israel and the United States, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency writes. The Zuckerman STEM Leadership Program will fund scholarships and educational activities for top researchers at universities in both countries.
The program, announced Monday at a New York event attended by several Nobel laureates, is set to launch in the 2016-17 academic year. Mr. Zuckerman's foundation will fund the program over the next 20 years. The U.S. News & World Report and the New York Daily News publisher gave $200 million to Columbia University in December 2012 to endow a center for neuroscience research.
