N.C. School District Breaks Ties With Teach for America

The board of the Durham school district in North Carolina voted to ends its relationship with Teach for America, citing the use of inexperienced teachers in schools with the greatest needs, says The Herald-Sun.

“It feels like despite the best intention and the efforts, this has potential to do harm to some of our neediest students,” according to school board member Natalie Beyer.

Those already hired will be allowed to finish their two-year assignments, but the district will add no new teachers through the program..

Teach for America assigned more than 10,000 recent college graduates to teach in schools across the country this year, according to NPR.
