National U. Gets $20-Million Gift for Education Programs

National University in San Diego has received an anonymous $20-million donation to boost programs to improve teaching and aid children's emotional development, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The funds will go to the private university's Sanford Education Center and will be buttressed by a $10-million match from the university's endowment.

The gift supports two initiatives at the center, which was launched last year with $1 million from banker and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford, that seek to improve learning environments. The Sanford Inspire Program aims to train inspirational teachers from preschool through high school, and the Sanford Harmony Program focuses on the social and emotional development of children.
