Nev. Official to Run Communities in Schools; Leadership Roundtable Gets New CEO

Dale Erquiaga, who helped overhaul K-12 education in Nevada as senior adviser to Gov. Brian Sandoval, has been appointed chief executive of Communities in Schools.

Communities in Schools

Dale Erquiaga was appointed chief executive of Communities in Schools, a network of 161 independent organizations that work to keep at-risk students in school and help them graduate.

Mr. Erquiaga will transition to his new role on November 1, leaving his post as chief strategy officer in the office of Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval. Previously, he was superintendent of public instruction for the State of Nevada and helped to overhaul the state’s K-12 education while serving as senior adviser to Governor Sandoval.

Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco

Max Hollein, director of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, was appointed to additional roles as chief executive of both its de Young and Legion of Honor museums.

Cathy Oldham Sanders, executive director of the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation, will be executive director.

Institute for Journalism in New Media

Jim Friedlich, co-founder and chief executive of Empirical Media Advisors, was appointed chief executive.

Kim Smolik, executive director of Franciscan Mission Service, will be chief executive and executive director.

Nafsa: Association of International Educators

Esther Brimmer, assistant secretary for international organization affairs for the U.S. Department of State, was appointed chief executive and executive director.
