New Ford Foundation President Talks About His Appointment and Growing Up in Harlem

The Wall Street Journal profiles Darren Walker a month before he starts his new job as president at the Ford Foundation.

Mr. Walker, who is 53 years old, will become the 10th president of the country's second-largest foundation, with more than $11-billion in assets. Although Mr. Walker has spent much of his career at foundation, including as a vice president at the Rockefeller Foundation, he says that he didn't start off looking for a career in philanthropy. Rather, his main priorities have included uplifting his Harlem neighborhood and working for social justice.

See this Chronicle interview for more coverage on Mr. Walker's appointment at the Ford Foundation.
