An education-focused crowdfunding website is helping colleges raise millions of dollars by tailoring campaigns to younger, more tech-savvy donors, writes The Washington Post.
Some 70 institutions, including primary and secondary schools as well as colleges, have collectively raised $10 million via GiveCampus.com since the Washington, D.C.-based firm launched its site last year. Notable successes include a College of the Holy Cross drive that netted nearly $2 million in 43 hours.
GiveCampus works directly with colleges to expand their donor bases for scholarship programs, renovations, and other projects, charging subscription fees based on the fundraising goal. “We wanted to engage a new generation of alums who need to be communicated with in a very different way,” said Dick Tantillo, vice president for communications and development at Hamilton College in New York State, which used GiveCampus to raise $900,000 in a 24-hour giving challenge in February.
