New York Fundraisers Are Bullish on 2015 Giving Picture

Nonprofit fundraisers in the New York City area paint an optimistic portrait on the regional giving environment for 2015 in a Crain's New York Business survey of development professionals.

While foundation giving has dropped in recent years, gains in individual and corporate support in high-paying industries like finance and business services are fueling high expectations.

Fifty-seven percent of 157 people polled for Crain's by the New York chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals were optimistic about this year's prospects, and 52 percent said their organizations are hiring development staff in anticipation of an improved giving climate. The respective figures in 2014 were 44 percent and 29 percent. There was also a dramatic increase in fundraisers using social media to connect with donors, from 51 percent to 84 percent.
