Newspaper's Special Giving Section Includes Story on Gay Issues

An article in The New York Times' special Sunday section about giving included a story about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues gaining attention in the philanthropic world.

In one example, the Girl Scouts’ Western Washington Council returned a $100,000 gift when the donor complained about the council including transgender girls in its programming. After making an appeal to the community, the council was quickly able to crowdfund donations far exceeding the value of the lost gift. The article referenced a 2013 Chronicle story about the opportunities for charities among gay donors.
