The Jacobses gave a number of big gifts in 2014, the largest of which was $50-million to their Joan and Irwin Jacobs Fund at the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego, through which they support arts and culture, education, health, and human-service organizations in the San Diego area.
Mr. Jacobs, 81, and Mrs. Jacobs, 82, also gave $25-million to the Jacobs Medical Center at the University of California at San Diego to match donations from others and $22.4-million to High Tech High Foundation to support the charter-school organization’s programs.
In addition, the couple donated $4.1-million to their Dunaway Foundation, which primarily supports education and health organizations, and they gave $66,000 to other nonprofits.
