Amount donated in 2014: $100-million
Beneficiary: Loma Linda University Health
Background: Mr. Troesh founded Robertson’s Ready Mix, which is used to make concrete.
Mr. and Mrs. Troesh pledged $100-million to Loma Linda University Health for a new children’s hospital.
The Troeshes volunteer at the hospital, and their son-in-law once worked there. They said they are donating the money not only because many of their grandchildren were born at the medical center, which is near Los Angeles, but also because they felt a responsibility to the area.
"So many people have made their wealth in the Inland Empire and moved away and taken that wealth with them," said Mr. Troesh. "But that money is needed here."
They said they hope their gift encourages their children and grandchildren eventually to become as involved with the medical center as they are.
