Background: James Haslam II founded Pilot Flying J, a company that operates a chain of truck stops throughout the U.S.

Mr. Haslam, 84, his wife, Natalie, 83, and their children pledged $50-million to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville Haslam College of Business Administration. The money will be used to hire new faculty and support research, scholarships, and other efforts.

Mr. and Mrs. Haslam are both 1952 graduates of the university, and some of their children are also alumni.
