Nonprofit Behind Rick Perry Indictment Deluged With Criticism

A left-leaning, politically oriented nonprofit in Austin, Tex., says it has been deluged with hateful messages since it filed a complaint against Gov. Rick Perry that led to his indictment, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Texans for Public Justice has tracked campaign contributions for years, shining a light on the role of influential donors in Texas politics. In June, the nonprofit filed a complaint against Mr. Perry that triggered an investigation into alleged coercion and abuse of authority. The governor was indicted last month on charges that he illegally tried to force the Democratic Travis County district attorney out of office by threatening to withhold funds.

Mr. Perry has called the indictment a "farce."

Craig McDonald, who heads Texans for Public Justice, says his nonprofit relies on donations from foundations, advocates of campaign finance reform, and trial lawyers.
