Obituary: Margot Winspear, Dallas Opera Benefactor

Margot Winspear, who with her late husband gave $42 million in 2002 to build a home for the Dallas Opera, passed away Wednesday at age 83 after a long battle with Alzheimer's, The Dallas Morning News and WFAA television report. The 2,200-seat Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House opened in 2009, two years after Mr. Winspear's death, as part of the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas's downtown Arts District.

Ms. Winspear was a longtime member of the Dallas Opera's board. The couple also funded an endowment for music students and a performance hall at the University of North Texas and gave millions of dollars for Alzheimer's research at the UT Southwestern Medical Center, according to a statement from the opera announcing her death.
