Obituary: Marjorie Fisher, Detroit Donor and Foundation Head

Marjorie Fisher, whose Detroit-area family foundation has given tens of millions of dollars over the past decade to support the arts, social services, and other causes, died Sunday at age 92 at her home in Palm Beach, Fla., reports the Detroit Free Press.

Ms. Fisher, widow of the late industrialist Max Fisher, served as chairwoman of the Max M. & Marjorie S. Foundation for six years after its founding in 2005. During her tenure, the fund committed more than $70 million in grants, joining a growing coterie of family funds making a mark in the Detroit region. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s concert hall was renamed the Max M. and Marjorie S. Music Center last year in recognition of $25 million in lifetime giving by the family.
