Obituary: Richard Jacobson, Health and University Donor, Dies

Philanthropist Richard Jacobson, 79, who gave $100 million to the Mayo Clinic and large gifts to Iowa universities and other nonprofits, died Friday at his home in Florida, The Des Moines Register reports.

Mr. Jacobson founded Jacobson Companies, in Des Moines, a large shipping and logistics company.

He gave several large gifts over his lifetime, including $15 million gift to the University of Northern Iowa’s College of Education in 2013. He also supported athletics facilities at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University.
